High School Social Worker

Minimum qualifications include certification as school social worker, school nurse, or school counselor; prior experience or equivalent knowledge of the K-12 student assistance prevention and intervention programs consistent with recommended legal procedures and accepted student assistance program standards of practice; Working with school personnel to identify behavioral signs and symptoms of substance abuse and to assist staff, students and parents when individual behavior becomes problematic due to substance use.

Job Responsibilities include administering the alcohol, tobacco and other drug policy of the district; providing counseling to those youth involved in drug abuse; acting as a resource person to staff, students and parents for services to students returning from treatment for alcohol and other drug abuse or psychiatric problems; serving as a resource to staff, students and parents in prevention education in the area of alcohol and other drug abuse and related problems ; coordinate in-service for administrators, teachers and parents to increase their awareness of the impact of chemical problems on educational performance and family dynamics, to enable them to identify signs of substance use by students,

and to enable them to carry out prevention education problems; establishing and utilize a referral network of community resources; serving at the secondary level as a liaison between home and school for

students with attendance difficulties; participating in multi-tiered systems of support as appropriate; reviewing caseloads with building administrators on a monthly basis; submitting a monthly summary report of direct services, an end of the year report and any other reports as required by the Director; and any other social work related activities assigned by the administration.

Reports to the Soroco High/Middle School Principal.

Work calendar, location, and hours are flexible, but will be based upon 8 hrs. per day, Aug-May, exempt status, salary is negotiable but will be similar to school counselors and mental health providers. Student Days are Monday-Thursday, and staff work 1-2 Fridays for month for professional development, conferences and prep days.
