TITLE: SCHOOL COUNSELOR 

Definition: The School Counselor supports the academic, social, emotional and career development of all students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. As a member of the student support services team, the School Counselor collaborates with teachers, administrators, parents and community members to create a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes student success. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
1. Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field. 
2. Colorado Department of Education (CDE) licensure or eligibility for licensure as a school counselor. 
3. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred. 
4. Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly Hispanic/Latino students. 
5. Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
6. Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff and community members.
7. Commitment to equity, inclusion and culturally responsive practices. 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Principals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 


Individual and Group Counseling: 
1. Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address students’ academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs.
2. Develop and implement personalized plans to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving their goals.
3. Utilize evidence-based counseling techniques and interventions to promote positive outcomes for students. 


Crisis Intervention and Support: 
1. Serve as a resource for students in crisis situations, providing immediate support and connecting them with appropriate resources.
2. Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to develop crisis response protocols and procedures. 
3. Implement preventive strategies to foster a safe and supportive school climate. 


Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Programming: 
1. Design and implement SEL programs and initiatives to promote students’ social and emotional well-being. 
2. Incorporate SEL curriculum into classroom activities and school-wide events. 
3. Collaborate with teachers to integrate SEL practices into the academic curriculum. 


Family and Community Engagement: 
1. Build strong partnerships with families to support students’ academic and personal development. 
2. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding students’ progress and concerns.
3. Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to access resources and services for students and families. 


Data Collection and Evaluation: 
1. Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of counseling programs and interventions. 
2. Use assessment results to inform decision-making and improve services for students.
3. Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions, referrals and student progress.


Professional Development and Collaboration: 
1. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.
2. Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary approaches to supporting student success. 
3. Serve as a resource for staff members on issues related to student mental health and well-being. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Work teacher days, plus 15 additional days. 
2. Salary Range: $55,000-$74,000

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy and procedure for evaluation of professional personnel.
