SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Dean of Students will be responsible for performing his/her duties, including assisting in creating a positive learning environment for all students. The Dean of Students will help manage discipline issues that disrupt the learning environment. Additionally, the Dean of Students will support building level leadership in the implementation of a systematic discipline system Restorative Discipline Practices, The 7 Mindsets and support the development of a positive school culture. The Dean of students will also serve as the District Assessment Coordinator. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Assist in creating a positive school environment conducive to teaching and learning. 
2. Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues and student discipline. 
3. Assist the principal(s)with the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students. 4. Assist the principal(s) in development and successful implementation of school improvement goals/objectives related to student discipline and building climate and culture.
5. Assist in developing and implementing behavior expectations, plans and interventions for students. 
6. Work closely with special education representatives and parents to foster positive relations and to support student learning. 
7. Become knowledgeable in The 7 Mindsets and support teachers and staff in their implementation. 
8. Become a resource to staff and students in Restorative Practices in the classroom and support building with their use. 
9. Function as the District Assessment Coordinator.
10. Communicate effectively and openly with parents and the public, and continue positive school/community relations and partnerships that enhance district programs and services. 
11. Support policies, rules and regulations established by the State of Colorado , State Board of Education, local Board of Directors, and the South Routt School District Administration.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned, during the contracted work day. 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Currently hold or are able to obtain a Colorado teacher’s license.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of: Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics; Student behavior management strategies and techniques;
2. Knowledge of technology and prior experience working with children in the field of literacy is highly encouraged.
3. Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; Basic arithmetic concepts; Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures.
4. Ability to: Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups; Communicate effectively in oral and written form; Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment; Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
3 years of teaching experience minimum.
Currently hold or are able to obtain a Colorado teacher’s license 

Education: Minimum BA 

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge of or experience with leadership at the building or district level
Demonstrated success working with classroom management and student discipline issues
Knowledgeable about behavior plans and special education processes and procedures 
Participation in the development of school improvement goals and objectives 
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to facilitate and participate in collaborative processes 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. 
Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 
This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve moving quickly, being stationary for brief periods. 
Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
