SALARY RANGE 
Per the Bayfield School District licensed administrator salary schedule is based on education and years of experience.

OVERVIEW
The principal is responsible for providing leadership and inspiration for instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance in creating the best possible opportunities for student academic growth and social-emotional development.

Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado and is a short drive to Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango. QUALIFICATIONS
• Attain a Colorado Principal license.
• Excel for 3-5 years of teaching and classroom experience.
• Demonstrate previous school administrative experience with a strong emphasis on instructional leadership.
• Demonstrate experience with school operations, restorative practices, budget preparation, and human resources.
• Inspire and work collaboratively with staff members and the community.
• Commit to the district vision of Each Student, Each Day: Wolverine Way.
• Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.

• Knowledge of school law, Colorado Revised Statutes, and health and safety regulations and procedures
• Ability to supervise the preparation of all school reports, annual budget for the district, and/or reports for the Colorado Department of Education.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/priorities with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to promote and follow the board of education and district policies, superintendent policies, and building/department procedures and practices.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES
• Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and behavior.
• Monitor and improve the quality of classroom instruction by providing continuous feedback on instruction, monitoring lesson plans, ensuring adherence to curriculum, and providing ongoing professional learning. 
• Collect and analyze data regarding the needs and achievement of students, including state assessments, local assessments, progress monitoring data, and other pertinent information to monitor the implementation and effectiveness of educational services and programs.
• Ensure the instructional programs engage students in learning experiences that will facilitate mastery of the Colorado Academic Standards.
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate personnel, establishing clear expectations for roles, responsibilities, and performance to ensure that all job responsibilities are met and exceeded. 
• Ensure personnel evaluation procedures are facilitated in a fair and consistent manner that encourages accountability, support, growth, and excellence, in accordance with the law and board policy.
• Lead the staff in overseeing the development and implementation of the school’s unified improvement plan (UIP), monitoring performance data, planning and implementing professional learning, and including student, parental, and community voices in the process.
• Understand and implement meaningful multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
• Organize school operations around the improvement of instruction by maintaining a safe and orderly environment, upholding state laws and district policies, managing personnel, maintaining the facility to provide a quality learning environment, managing fiscal resources, establishing public relationships, and coordinating effective instructional programs with a master schedule. 
• Incorporate positive behavior support systems for teaching behavioral expectations to all students and staff. 
• Provide and supervise effective discipline and attendance systems in a fair and consistent manner with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school and district in accordance with due process and other laws and regulations, ensuring a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior.
• Notify immediately appropriate personnel and agencies, and follow established procedures when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol and/or controlled substances.
• Plan, organize, control, and direct operations concerning the inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of the building, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe and orderly operations and conditions.
• Ensure personnel and student record-keeping procedures comply with state and federal law and district policy. Implement procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
• Coordinate, attend, and conduct various meetings and in-services, as assigned.
• Develop and maintain a positive rapport and relationships with the community, students, parents, and staff.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the superintendent.
